What qualities or characteristics in a person truly and deeply trigger the human emotion of "hate"?

I am writing a short story for a English Comp. cl about a man on death row who is innocent, but should invoke feelings of hate or extreme disliking by the reader. What characteristics (in personality, behavior, appearance, background, etc) would make you hate a person enough to have them die whether they are innocent in a heinous crime or not?
