Hair is too wavy and thick to grow?

I am 16 years old and I want to grow my hair kinda like this http://www.afterelton.com/archive/elton/blog/uploads/2007/03/skinsattitude.jpg mitch hewer but they both have the same lenght anyway my hair is short now but my only problem is that my hair is thick and wavy and the problem is when it grows it is too thick and I dont think it will grow anymore because it is too wavy and thick how can I straighten it because I think it would be too short for a hair straightener sorry if I confused you after reading that im kinda confused meself ha thanks for any help you can give
